The V&A Collection
Jonathan has been commissioned by the V&A museum to design an exclusive hand carved cameo vase to celebrate the opening of their new shop on 14 March.
Jonathan Harris is one of just eighteen artists from around the world who has been chosen by the V&A to design and produce an exclusive work of art to be a part of their ‘Cherry on the Cake’ collection.
The brief from the V&A was to take inspiration from works belonging to the V&A collection. Jonathan’s inspiration for his vase came from the works of John Constable, in particular, oil on canvas ‘Water Meadows’ near Salisbury 1829.
‘..the colour shifts, the quality of light, the romantic narrative…’
‘I am surrounded and constantly inspired by the beauty of Shropshire’s countryside and Constable obviously possessed a similar passion for the landscape. It seemed so fitting to combine and express a mutual interest through two diverse media, my love of glass and Constable’s love of oils’.
Each vase is unique, signed by Jonathan, is a limited edition of just 25, 17cm high approx, costs £450. Each piece is made to order and is exclusive to the V&A.
Yesterday the V&A launched a massive media campaign regarding the ‘Cherry on the Cake’ collection and we have already received many feature enquiries. Therefore, we felt that we should notify you asap to give you first option to order one of the vases. We will include this in the spring newsletter and try and mail prior to the opening on the 14 March, but if you would like to order one of these vases, we strongly suggest that you contact us ASAP. There is also a commemorative catalogue featuring the 18 items, which we have not seen yet but once released they are expecting an influx of orders.
If you decide to order one please drop us a line so that we can monitor requests.
